(best) days of our lives

Backtrack.
The last few weeks have been incredible, starting with my birthday cupcake...

...coffee and Flaubert in the quad...

...and a beautiful train ride home...

RIP kate mcgarrigle

"Sadly our sweet Kate had to leave us last night. She departed in a haze of song and love surrounded by family and good friends. She is irreplaceable and we are broken-hearted. Til we meet again dear sister. "

I grew up on the McGarrigles and their beautiful harmonies. It's strange to think about the death of someone you feel you've known all your life, without ever having met. I don't know what to think.

awake

These are beautiful photographs... They make me think of my cousins' farm and the serenity of those early mornings that have been spent wandering through the apple orchards and down along the river. They are moments when it feels like the world actually stops. You can come back to them years later and remember every detail: ducking and swinging low through wooden fences; marshy patches scattered throughout the fields and into scraggly woods (inevitably forcing giant leaps to punctuate your steps); soft light, not yet intense enough to cast a shadow. Exactly how the dew has collected along blades of grass.

space eliminated

I love the deconstructed reality of these photographs. Bits and pieces of what you see. It makes me wonder about how we take in the world. Eliminating space.

à contre jour

Combining two of my obsessions: chandeliers AND Rome! While going through my Rome album for my last post, I found (yet another) image of light. Entirely different from the others - like they've been encased in ice. I think the translucence it creates is fantastic!

roma: primo amore

I love this post from Milk, although I cannot honestly say that I speak a word of Swedish. (I so want to!) The second image especially draws me, throwing me into a furious bout of déjà vu...

I love wandering through Rome and people-watching all the people who are people-watching out their windows. I love weaving my way down Via del Corso, crossing back and forth from Piazza del  Popolo all the way down to Piazza Venezia. Alternating between streets so completely packed with people and tourists and others that remain utterly empty. Just as in the second photograph. With the sheets hanging from the sides of the buildings and the shutters left open the streets take on a strange movement in their silent stillness.

2010

- to let the things i love be what i do.
- to enrich
- to forget myself and yet stay true to myself.
- to follow my instincts.
- to look a little closer.
- stop waiting for things to happen.
- to create.
- to walk slow and look up.
- to quit procrastinating.
- to be more grateful.
- to be less fearful.
- to live in light and love.

It is highly conceivable that I should try for some more concrete and quantifiable resolutions, however...
As someone who seems to eternally struggle to think of New Years Resolutions - and even when I do manage to come up with something, I'm fairly certain the last time I actually wrote them down was in 1998 - I thought I would make a sincere effort to change that. Here.
Happy 2010!
